Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
Since August 1998
What is your primary product or service?
Romantic stays in a Victorian home, complete with an indulgent breakfast and evening refreshments.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Dan was a journalist for 23 years, working in Asheville, Savannah, Fort Lauderdale, then Charlotte. Nancy was a special education teacher in each of those cities. We decided to go into business for ourselves and wanted to do it where we considered home, the North Carolina Mountains.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We're very down-to-earth. Our atmosphere is casual, our environment is homey and inviting. Most folks don't want to spend their vacation in a museum-like setting. We also practice green policies: we conserve, recycle and reuse. We try to keep our home allergen-free. We avoid red meats and processed food. Whenever possible we cook with organic herbs and vegetables from our garden.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We have only one location and plan to keep it that way.
Provide detailed directions to your location
We are two blocks south of the center of Weaverville's business district, at the corner of Main and East streets.
What type of payments do you accept?
Cash, checks, travellers checks and most credit cards. We'll even barter sometimes.
Which areas do you service?
The entire planet.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
Dan and Nancy Ward do everything.
What are your hours of operation?
Around the clock, but don't call after 9 p.m. or before 10 a.m.
